Beyond the Falls
Victoria Falls, Hwange National Park and Mana Pools
Beyond the Falls
There is little dispute that Victoria Falls is one of the most defining landmarks of Zimbabwe, if not the entire continent of Africa. But ‘the Smoke That Thunders, or Mosi-oa-Tunya in the local dialect, is just one aspect of this diverse and captivating nation.
With the meandering Zambezi coursing along its northern borders, the variety of wildlife matches Zimbabwe’s diversity of landscapes. While the reputation of Victoria Falls may take precedence and draw year-round crowds, there is a far quieter, more exclusive side to Zimbabwe that is waiting to be discovered.
Beginning at the celebrity destination, this itinerary takes you directly to the jewel of Zimbabwe, combining the majestic Falls with game drives and walking safaris through Zambezi National Park. Drift on the Zambezi on a sunset boat cruise and rise at dawn to explore the bush in search of the park’s most cherished residents, the white rhino.
The first days of this journey place Mosi-oa-Tunya in the spotlight, exploring the falls on foot, taking afternoon tea with a breathtaking view, taking to the skies on a helicopter flight over the gorge, or getting the adrenaline pumping with whitewater rafting, bungee jumping and other thrill-inducing activities.

10 DAYS OF DIVERSITY
DAYS 1-3 | VICTORIA FALLS | 3 NIGHTS
There are two accommodation options for your time at Victoria Falls.
For those seeking a more wildlife-oriented stay, take a four-wheel drive vehicle into Zambezi National Park and the serene Mpala Jena to begin the adventure with a safari immersion. Settle in to camp and then enjoy a host of activities including game drives, canoeing, birding, walking and boating.
While you are able to incorporate Falls day trips and experiences to your stay at Mpala Jena, to truly experience ‘the Smoke that Thunders’, The Victoria Falls Hotel is superbly positioned to take full advantage of this natural wonder.
Walks allow you to view the falls from prime locations and discover its history from your knowledgeable guide. There is also the option for helicopter flights over the gorge, plunging into the Devil’s Pool on the brink of the falls or indulge your adventurous side with whitewater rafting, bungee jumping and a host of thrilling activities.
The Victoria Falls Hotel is superbly elegant, and there are few better ways to take in its incredible views than over afternoon high tea on the expansive balcony.
DAYS 4-6 | LINKWASHA CAMP, HWANGE | 3 NIGHTS
Hwange National Park is renowned for being the home to Africa’s largest population of elephant. Rising from just 1,000 individuals only a few decades ago to over 50,000 today, Hwange is a success story of anti-poaching operations. Set out at dawn on a game drive as the bush awakens for the day. Alongside their trunked and tusked fellow inhabitants, giraffe, zebra and buffalo wander the landscapes, grazing on lush vegetation.
On an evening game drive, you might be lucky enough to observe a pride of lion setting out on their evening’s hunt.
For a more sedate exploration of the park, guided walking safaris are also available at Linkwasha. Catering to your pace and capabilities, a relaxed bush walk allows you to discover many aspects that can be overlooked on a four-wheel drive excursion. Learn how to read the Braille of tracks left by passing animals, observe insects and small reptiles, and maybe even glimpse larger mammals at a safe distance.
DAYS 7-9 | TEMBO PLAINS, MANA POOLS | 3 NIGHTS
Set on the banks of the Zambezi, the river is the star attraction of Tembo Plains. Watch elephant bathing as you take breakfast on the expansive waterfront deck or listen to the sounds of the river as you indulge in a massage.
This opulent tented camp offers direct access to river activities, including fishing, canoeing and sunset boat cruises, but also to the surrounding forested terrain.
Game drives will take in elephant, lion, hyena and many more of the abundant species, as well as a strong possibility of spying the usually elusive African painted dog, leopard and the slim chance of a lone cheetah.
DAY 10 | END OF ITINERARY
A short game drive will take you to the landing strip for your domestic flight to Harare International Airport to bid farewell to Zimbabwe and begin your journey home.
