In the small rocky desert of Agafay, Scarabeo Camp affords stunning 360° views of the region’s barren beauty and beyond to the snow-capped Atlas mountains. The collection of white tents sits elegantly amidst the grandeur of its unending landscape and despite being just 45 minutes’ drive from Marrakech, it feels a world away.
Scarabeo offers just 15 tented rooms and each consists of a nomad tent of thick white cotton with comfortable beds, African woven matting and Berber rugs. Interesting pieces brought back from travels abroad and atmospheric Moroccan lanterns deliver the ambience of an expedition from another time. You can recline in a traditional Moroccan lounge strewn with knotted cushions whilst you silently savour the mystical desert landscape in front of your tent. Feasting on traditional Moroccan cuisine around a candlelit communal table defines the expedition style experience and the food is sensational with fresh bread baked daily in a small traditional earthen oven and seasonal vegetables cooked simply to bring out their fresh natural flavour.
Activities centre around exploring the vast landscape and you might like to take an off-road tour by quad bike, ride in a dune buggy , go hiking, horse riding or traverse the dunes on the back of a camel or donkey. In camp, stargazing, yoga and luxurious spa treatments using local oils, sand and clay can all be arranged.
Scarabeo Camp is effortlessly chic and offers an elegant retreat in which to rest awhile after the vibrant busyness of Marrakech – pure escapism!
